B'Yachad

And I will walk at Liberty!

Study, share, and support one another.  If you are interested in participating and/or helping start an email, forum, blog, web-group, and/or home chavurah (friendship) group (Jewish or inter-faith) please email with "Group" as the subject heading.

Please also email us if you currently host a group (inter-faith/sectarian or not) that you would like us to link to or provide information on. We hope to encourage participatory worship and communal teaching for Jews.

We also hope that some people will also want to create inter-faith meetings of non-proselytizing groups of people to share, rather than argue, about their respective faiths to encourage an honest seeking of truth and foster peace between peoples of faith.

What is an assembly?

At Torah Echad, we support egalitarian and participatory services and congregations.

In Scripture, we are often called the children of Israel, an assembly, and a congregation. The model of a rabbi who runs the services was an advent not of Scripture, but a direct result of Judaism's encounter of Hellenism coupled with the destruction of the temple (lament!).

This is not to say that it is wrong to assemble under the tutelage of a rabbi. It is to note however that we should come together to learn and teach. Some services will go over the heads of newcomers and they will not return. Other services will not enrich the member at their level of sophistication. Participatory minyans and shuls offer not only personal attention to the needs of the members, but it also creates a closer and more familial bond.

We do note that priests, levites, and the elders of Israel were instrumental in the assembly in Israel so there is no aversion to having others lead services. Participation on the part of the assembly was part of the ancient tradition and thus, we hope to support its revival and remnants. It is important to note that the faith of the individual is strengthened in a congregation of like-minded people.
